Time seems to have come to a standstill on Edisto Island. Not only is this one of the least commercialized beaches in all of South Carolina, it is certainly one of the most beautiful. With the beach being so open, take a leisurely walk and hunt for rare shells found only on this lovely quiet island. Even the ocean is gentle - ideal for sailing and swimming. Go fishing, shrimping or crabbing. Watch snowy egrets glide through the magnolia-scented air or stroll through magnificent moss-draped oaks by the stately antebellum plantation homes and historic cemeteries. Hunt for antiques or enjoy some of the excellent food, which the area is known for. Be sure to visit nearby Charleston with its rich history and historic sites. Charles Towne Landing is Charleston's first settlement, offering underground exhibits and an exciting natural-habitat animal forest. The Magnolia Plantation and Gardens has one of the largest collections of camellias and azaleas in America. Middleton Place, landscaped with terraces and butterfly lakes in 1741, includes a working plantation, stable yard and horse museum. Go on a walking tour down cobblestone streets of the old district with its antebellum architecture. Fairfield Ocean Ridge offers specially discounted tickets to many popular local attractions, such as the Magnolia Plantation Tour, Charleston Tour, Fishing Charters, Savannah Tours, and Scenic River Cruises. 1 King Cotton Road, Edisto Beach, SC - From Charleston Airport: Start out going West on International Boulevard towards Air Cargo Lane by turning right. Stay straight to go onto Air Cargo Lane, which becomes International Boulevard. Take the I-526 West ramp towards Savannah. Merge onto I-526 West. Turn right onto Savannah Highway. Turn left onto SC-174. Travel approximately 26 miles to Jungle Road. Turn right on Jungle Road. Turn right onto Lybrand Street, which becomes Dock Site Road. |
