The English Garden Bed and Breakfast is located in the heart of the Historic Stockade District of Schenectady. The home was built in 1775 by wealthy fur traders. It has been said that George Washington was among those who stayed here in the early days. The English Garden was built as a Federal Style building, and in the 1800's Victorian architecture was added. The home is decorated with fine antiques throughout and can accommodate dinner parties or small intimate weddings in the ball room or the tea room. The tea room has the original wood beams and plank flooring from 1775. The Inn is a 5,000 square foot home, and houses many secrets in its numerous nooks and crannies. The host is accommodating to suggestions and can supply linens, silverware, flowers, etc. to accommodate guests. Business guests and professionals enjoy the homey accommodations during the week, and business services such as a fax machine and internet are available on-site.<br><br>
The guest rooms include either a private bath or shared bath and queen sized beds. Suites are available, and a single bed can be placed in room to accommodate additional guests. The cost of the rooms includes a full course breakfast: coffee, tea, juice, choice of quiche, or frittata or french toast, homemade breakfast breads, yogurt and fresh fruit in season. Other amenities include wireless Internet, cable TV, daily newspapers, meeting facilities, and free parking.<br><br> Guests who plan to arrive after 10 PM must call 800-627-7019 at least 48 hours prior to arrival to receive the number to call for check-in instructions. A $40 fee will be assessed for all check-ins after 11:30 PM. |

| Area Attractions
The Inn is located five blocks from Union College, less than a mile from General Electric and a few miles from the Albany Airport. The Historic Saratoga race track and city are within a thirty minute drive. The English Garden located twenty minutes from the State Capitol in Albany. The city has much to offer for guests with its museums and summer concerts. Guests can go sightseeing in the Stockade area with its historic residences such as the Mabey House and the Saratoga Race Track. Guest can enjoy biking along the Mohawk Towpath alongside the Mohawk River, or visiting Saratoga Springs with the antique shops and the historic race track and baths. Other activities guests can occupy themselves with are golfing, skiing, hiking, shopping, and visiting the vineyards. Other points of interest include the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Race Track, Saratoga Golf course, SPAC, Schenectady Museum, Proctors Theatre, and Albany Museum. Schenectady also offers great local activities such as special art events and antique shows. |

205 Union Street, Schenectady, NY - From the Albany Airport: Go north on Albany Shaker Road and take a left on Route 7. Take Union Street all the way until Erie Blvd, and go straight over Erie Blvd. You will pass the entrance to the Historic Stockade. Continue straight on Union to the property at 205 Union St. |
