This historic Victorian hotel is located on the grounds of the Chautauqua Institution just steps from the amphitheater in Chautauqua, N.Y. The area is noted for its environmental awareness and features hiking and biking trails along former railroad right-aways. Chautauqua features a 36-hole golf course. Tennis, biking and boating are all within a short distance. In the winter, horse-drawn sleigh rides go right by the hotel, and cross-country skiing, sledding and downhill ski areas are nearby.<br> The Spencer Hotel is a charming literary themed boutique hotel close to 100 years old. It has been newly renovated, while keeping the beauty and grace of its original style. Its rooms feature hand-painted murals, 18th-century antique furnishings and crystal beaded lampshades that transport guests back to another time. The Monet Parlor features warm colors, an oriental carpet, fireplace, chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling windows. <br><br> A complimentary continental breakfast is served in the Peacock dining room. Guests are invited to relax on the porches in the white wicker rockers. Personal service is a specialty of The Spencer. Amenities such as valet parking, baggage carriers, room service, laundry and dry-cleaning service, personal errands and limousine service are all available. An elevator is available to all four floors.<br><br> All rooms were decorated by local artists to depict the lives of, or scenes from, the works of famous authors. Every room was lovingly created as a literary fantasy, featuring authors from Isak Dinesen to Jules Verne. Each room boasts comfortable premium linen sheets, luxurious blankets and down comforters. Some rooms have Whirlpool tubs with hand-held showers. Wireless Internet service is available, as well as laptop jacks. Daily housekeeping is provided.
