Don't know what to do in Duluth? Hike or snowshoe the scenic Superior Hiking Trail. The newest segment of this famous North Shore trail passes a mere 4 blocks from the A.G. Thomson House along Tischer Creek, where tall white pines and tumbling waterfalls down a steep ravine will make one feel like they are a hundred miles from civilization. Take a tour of Lake Superior's beautiful and rugged shoreline between Duluth and the Canadian border. There is a guest log maintained exclusively by the Thomson House with sightseeing, hiking and dining tips for along the way. Bring your bike and try one of the best of Minnesota's many great rails-to-trails, the Willard Munger State Trail, which originates (or ends) minutes from the inn. Not only is this northern end of the 69-mile trail the most scenic segment, but the nice gradual climb out of Duluth along the St. Louis River means it's all downhill coming home. View one of nature's remarkable spectacles each autumn just a few miles from the inn at Hawk Ridge Nature Reserve. Reluctant to cross the vast expanse of Lake Superior, some 20 species of migrating raptors and vultures concentrate in impressive numbers at its western tip in the skies above Hawk Ridge. Swing away at one of many nearby golf courses - including city-owned Lester Park and Enger Park, Lakeview National in Two Harbors, Nemadji just across the bridge in Superior, and Black Bear just south of Duluth in Carlton. | Driving Directions
2617 East Third Street, Duluth, MN - From Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport: Depart the airport heading Northwest and merge onto MN-5 East toward MN-55/St. Paul/Minneapolis and continue for 3.9 miles. Merge onto Interstate 35E North and continue for 24.3 miles. I-35E North becomes I-35 North, and continue for 132 miles. Take the London Road exit. Stay in the right lane at the stoplight, cross London Road, and proceed seven blocks uphill on 26th Avenue East. Turn right on East 3rd St and the Thomson House is on the left side at the end of the block. Come up the driveway, park in back (between a set of lights), and enter through the front door. |
