Location. Built in 1927 by E.M. Statler, the "Father of the American Hotel," the Boston Park Plaza & Towers became a forerunner of modern hospitality. The hotel's 950 rooms, restaurants and shops occupy one of the more prestigious blocks in Boston, Mass., giving reason for many to characterize the hotel as a "city within a city." Further West, the intimate Back Bay neighborhood claims home to the Prudential Center Mall, Hynes Convention Center, and the brownstone designer shops and pubs of eclectic Newbury Street. Subway access on the Green Line is just steps from the lobby door. Boston's Logan International Airport is five miles from this property.
Hotel Features. The Boston Park Plaza's lobby receives guests with a historic architectural decadence. Crystal chandeliers bounce light between alabaster colonnades. The Park Plaza's ballrooms and meeting areas are adjacent to the lobby, and the hotel boasts nine restaurants and lounges. Swans Café is the Plaza's elegant lobby restaurant, serving fine cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Alternatively, McCormick & Schmick's delivers a large menu of Maine Atlantic Salmon and Idaho Rainbow Trout. For a late-night cocktail the hotel's Whiskey Park lounge draws both romantic and social patrons. In the morning, Au Bon Pain makes a convenient breakfast on the go.
Guestrooms. The Boston Park Plaza revolutionized the hotel industry more than 75 years ago, as the first hotel to furnish guestrooms with radios, stationery and closets. Though room designs have changed considerably since then, the Park Plaza has updated valiantly. Designs incorporate coffee-hued linens and swaged drapes, accompanied by the crisp lines of modern cherry wood furnishings. High-speed Internet access is also available at a surcharge. The bathrooms feature premium toiletries.
Expert Tip. The Whiskey Park attracts a diverse crowd. Celtic basketball players are often spotted at the bar after a win on game nights.
