The town of Helen is Georgia's alpine village famous for its Oktoberfest festival from September to November to honor its German heritage. Guests are close to downtown cobblestone alleyways that pass unique gift shops, while recreational enthusiasts and outdoor lovers are close to hiking, horseback riding and panning for gold in the National Forest and Unicoi State Park, where gold was discovered in 1828 and instituted the country's first "gold rush." Leaves of brilliant oranges, yellows, purples and reds lure tourists each autumn to these foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Guests also are three miles from the Innsbruck Golf Course.
