| Area Attractions
Rockledge Country Inn is perfectly situated to take advantage of all the sites and attractions that the Pikes Peak region has to offer. Within walking distance is the historic town of Manitou Springs, home to nine mineral springs that were the initial draw for visitors to this area - these days it has much more to offer as well. From Manitou you can take the world's highest cog railroad, the Manitou and Pikes Peak Railway, to the top of Pikes Peak at an elevation of 14,110. If heights aren't what you're looking for, but you'd rather explore the depths, then just up the road you'll find the beautiful Cave of the Winds. If you wish to not only marvel at God's creation, then also nearby you can witness the incredible, man-made Cliff Dwellings or Miramont Castle. As if that were not enough to keep you entertained we're also only 5 miles from downtown Colorado Springs or a mere two miles from Old Colorado City. Next to the awesomeness of Pikes Peak, the serenity of the Garden of the Gods will take your breath away, and it's just outside the doorstep. If you're looking for something for your family to enjoy you will find yourself well taken care of: Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (highest zoo in the US), Flying "W" Ranch Chuck Wagon Cowboy Show (highly recommended), North Pole & Santa's Workshop, and more. Colorado Springs is also home to the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Olympic Training Compex, and the ProRodeo Hall of Fame & Museum. Nestled at the foot of Pikes Peak also gives rise to tremendous outdoor recreational opportunities including, but not limited to: skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, river rafting and kayaking, golf, fishing and even some not-so- typical activities like hot air ballooning. Boasting a surprising 300 days of sunshine per year, the beauty and splendor of the landscape, along with the temperate climate encourages outdoor pursuits year-round. |
