| Property Info
Take a step back into time with this elegant English style inn that pampers guests and provides a great place for romance. Located in the historic California Gold Rush area of the Sierra Foothills, the Grey Gables Inn brings a touch of English countryside to the Mother Lode. The inn has eight elegantly decorated guestrooms named for English poets such as Byron, Browning, and Shelley. Guests can relax in their rooms or head outside to the red, brick pathway that leads the way to a terraced garden with fountains, vine covered arbors, and a multitude of colorful plants and flowers. In true English tradition, there is afternoon tea with cakes or scones in the formal parlor between 3-4 PM, as well as evening hor d'oeuvres and refreshments that have become a bed and breakfast tradition between 6-7 PM. A gourmet breakfast is served at 9 AM, featuring an ever changing array of culinary creations with an English Flair. Guests may enjoy the meal in the relaxed social atmosphere of the dining room or take breakfast in the privacy of their own room. Early coffee and tea is also served at 7:30 AM.
Each fully carpeted guest room has its own fireplace, accented with rich wood trim and marble tile. There's a spacious armoire in which to hang clothes, a dresser for foldables, and a roomy, comfortable bed to snuggle down in. The warm wood grain of fine antique furnishings is accented by colorful wall coverings in pink and green florals. Each room has a tiled private bath, all with showers and many with a traditional claw foot tub. For guests warm-weather comfort, each room is also individually air conditioned.<br> **This property requires a two-night minimum stay for all Friday and Saturday arrivals.** |

| Area Attractions
Sutter Creek, as well as the nearby towns of Amador City and Jackson, have retained much of their Gold Rush Era charm while providing the visitor with a wide variety of interesting shops and restaurants. Antique, art, glassware, and clothing shops abound -- and culinary treats range from fresh baked goods and coffee, to wine and cheese, pizza and burgers, to full gourmet dinners. In addition to its historical treasures, Amador County now boasts an ever-growing number of award-winning wineries, most of which are located in the Shenandoah Valley, near Plymouth. Most of the large wineries are open to the public for daily wine tasting, and many have large sales rooms and gift shops. After visiting the wineries, take a little side trip through Ione, to catch a glimpse of the impressive Preston Castle. Built in the late 1800's as a boy's reformatory, Preston is still in operation as an incarceration and rehabilitation facility for troubled young men. An enjoyable drive eastward along Sutter Creek will lead visitors to the little hamlet of Volcano. Once the site of extensive and devastating hydraulic mining, nature has reclaimed the little valley and the town is one of the most picturesque in the county. Volcano's Cobblestone Theater and Amphitheater are home to award-winning plays and are an enjoyable and entertaining evening diversion. Just a few miles up the hill from Volcano is the Chaw Se Indian Grinding Rock State Park and Museum, dedicated to the Northern Sierra Miwok and other Northern California Native American linguistic groups. If being on the water is what visitors crave, Amador County has dozens of water-sports destinations. Just south of Ione are Lake Amador, Lake Camanche, and Lake Pardee, all with excellent fishing and boating. If the Sierra backdrop is more to their liking.....head up highway 88 toward Lake Tahoe to Silver Lake for fishing, swimming, and skiing. Whether visitors are into shopping, history, the great outdoors, or just relaxing, they'll find just what their looking for within minutes of the Grey Gables Inn. |
