<b>Location.</b> Located on a bluff overlooking the Mendocino Coast in northern California, the Coast Guard House Historic Inn is one mile from the sleepy village of Point Arena. Mendocino County has long been associated with artists and counterculture groups, but is considered by many to be the premier destination on California's northern coast. Just up the coast from the inn is the Point Arena Lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse on the West Coast. Just a bit north of the lighthouse is Manchester Beach State Park, where the San Andreas Fault cuts into the ocean. Three miles south of town is Schooner Gulf Beach and headlands which provide a great location for fishing, picnicking, surfing or watching the sun set. Picturesque and secluded, the area is perfect for recreation seekers, with kayaking, mountain biking, horseback riding and many other sporting opportunities available. <br><b>Hotel Features.</b> This ocean-view, Cape Cod-style inn incorporates purposeful design and an uncluttered interior with fine craftsmanship indicative of its early 20th-century origins when designs began to stray from the Victorian excesses that were popular at the time. Although much of the property's ambience is brought about by its quiet, peaceful setting and lack of modern annoyances, complimentary wireless Internet access is offered. Guests awaken each morning to a multi-course gourmet breakfast and are encouraged to utilize the inn's full concierge service to arrange horseback riding, in-room massages and dinner reservations.<br><br><b>Guestrooms.</b> Each of the delightful guestrooms features fine linens, distinctive décor and unique amenities. Most units have fireplaces and feature Japanese-style baths or jetted tubs. <br><br><b>Expert Tip.</b> The towns of Mendocino and Fort Bragg are just 30 and 35 miles up the coast, respectively. The popular television series <i>Murder She Wrote</i> was filmed in this area. Fifty miles south of town at Goat Rock State Beach, the classic ending of the 1985 movie <i>The Goonies</i> was filmed.

695 Arena Cove, Point Arena, Calif. <br> From San Francisco International Airport: <br> Take US-101 North from the airport. <br> Take CA-1 North toward 19th Avenue/Golden Gate Bridge. <br> Take the Golden Gate Bridge to US-101 North to Petaluma. Then the take East Washington Street/Bodega Bay exit. <br> Make a left turn onto East Washington Street. <br. East Washington Street becomes Bodega Avenue. <br> Bodega Avenue becomes Valley Ford Road. <bR> Turn slightly left onto CA-1/Valley Ford Cutoff.<br> Continue to follow CA-1 for about 70 miles. <br> In Point Arena, drive past mile marker 15 and then make a left turn on Iverson Avenue where there is a sign that says "one mile to the wharf". <br> Before Arena Cove, the Coast Guard House will be on the right. |
