Location. The Avalon Hotel located on a residential street in Beverly Hills, Calif., is just six blocks from the fashionable shops of Beverly Hills and five miles from Hollywood.
Hotel Features. Lauded as "One of the 36 Best New Hotels in the World" by Condé Nast Traveler, the Avalon interweaves retro chic with bold mid-century design. Distinguished by its unique layout, this sophisticated hideaway is composed of three buildings that surround the hotel's dramatic pool terrace. The on-site restaurant, the blue on blue serves eclectic California cuisine and features martinis in a relaxed atmosphere that includes the hotel's unusual, vintage hourglass- shaped pool. The hotel's Aura Spa offers in-room massages, body wraps, facials, hairstyling and other health-oriented treatments.
Guestrooms. The 88 guestrooms feature contemporary décor with accent pieces from well- known designers Nelson, Noguchi and Eames. The guestrooms include queen beds with Italian Frette linens, high- speed Internet access, desks and media and entertainment centers. Many rooms include private balconies that overlook the street scene or the pool area.
Expert Tip. Martinis are "in" and come in daily flavors at blue on blue's hipster bar. The Librarian's Martini is a combination of Southern Comfort, Amaretto, and the juices of fresh limes and cranberries. Other popular libations guests may wish to sample include A Walk in Space, Blue Avalon, and the Sex Kitten (Skyy vodka; Cointreau; sweet, fresh, lime juice, and fresh raspberries).
