Surrounded by the Fiordland National Park forest, an area made popular as "Middle Earth" in the "Lord of the Rings" movies, the Takaro Lodge is located 32 kilometers (20 miles) from Te Anau, New Zealand, and 50 kilometers (31 miles) from Doubtful Sound. Takaro means "recreation" in the Maori culture, and the benefits of the hotel's environment include pure, clean air, captivating mountains and clear, green fields.
Guests can indulge in Takaro specialties, such as homemade fruit wine and organic herbal teas. The on-site Energy Clinic Spa combines modern Western luxury with ancient Chinese knowledge. Guests can also relax in the spa's pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room.
Complimentary breakfasts are served each morning and the Takaro Lodge Restaurant features Chinese and Western dishes with five-course dinners changing daily, along with light lunches made with mostly organic ingredients and meats from the hotel's own farm.
The Takaro Lodge contains 10 suites, designed according to the principles of Feng Shui, that include heated bathroom floors and heated towel racks. With mountain or valley views, all feature 24-hour room service, high-speed Internet access, cable television, coffeemakers, minibars, refrigerators, in-room safes, jetted tubs, bathrobes and complimentary toiletries and bottled water.
